SPRING CHECKLIST

SPRING CHECKLIST

Spring Checklist

Now that the snow is gone and things are turning green, it’s time to freshen things up. Open your windows and let the sunlight and fresh air in. It’s time to get your home ready for the season.

Spring Cleaning

Doing a thorough clean of your house can be quite overwhelming. Try doing just one room at a time. After decluttering, start from the ceiling and working your way down. Whether you only have 10 minutes or the whole weekend, every little bit helps and that room will be done in no time and you can move on to the next.

Attic

Make sure that the ventilation in your attic is working properly and that no small animals have nested in there. Look for any obstructions to the vents, signs of leaking through the roof, and that the insulation has remained in place. Having good airflow will help out when the weather gets warmer.

Foundation

Winter weather can cause damage to your foundation. Inspect the concrete in your basement and look for any signs of sinking or cracks as well as any water leaks. This is something you’ll want repaired right away.

Furnace and Air Conditioner

Every Canadian knows that Mother Nature has a mind of her own and that you may need to use both your furnace and AC in the same week. Make sure they are functioning properly and have them serviced if necessary. Check all your connections, make sure the air intake and exhaust areas are clean and change your filters.

Roof

Once the snow is gone, it’s a good time to check your roof. Check to see that none of your shingles are missing, curling, and still have a granular texture. Do you have any areas with algae or leaves built up? This can lead to water damage. Make sure your gutters are clean and inspect your chimney.

Yard

Now that the house is clean and inspected you can spend some time outside freshening up your yard. Rake, aerate and mow your lawn. This will clean up all the dry grass and leaves and allow your grass to breathe. Power wash decks and patios and bring out that outdoor furniture. Clean your flower beds and garden so that you are ready to plant something beautiful.

Now you can sit, relax and enjoy the fruits of your labours. Summer will be here soon!
