WHAT YOU MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN WHEN MOVING

Moving is certainly hectic, we understand that. Sometimes things can get forgotten. The following is a list of the top things people forget to do when planning for a move.

  1. Create a moving checklist – organize your time properly, time management is imperative when planning your move. Create a timeline for your move, making sure you don’t forget to have the important items at the top of the list! No matter how much time you feel like you have before you move, you don’t want to put things off until the evening before your move.
  2. Compare quotes from various moving companies – you have many choices in moving companies. If you do choose to hire a professional moving company, make sure to chat with a few different options so you have a good idea of what each company has to offer and choose the company that will best suite your needs.
  3. Collect all of your important documents and records – make sure that your utilities are up to date with the new address, you’ve given schools, doctors, employment, vehicle registries, and any other individuals  your new information. No matter how trustworthy your moving company is, take these documents to your new home yourself – you don’t want those to get lost in the chaos of boxes.
  4. Take your pet to get a check up – with the stresses of moving, sometimes we forget to make sure our animals are handling the change well. Make an appointment with your local veterinarian to ensure your pets are ready to endure the journey without any health concerns or problems.
  5. Take only useful things – it may seem easies to pack everything and organize it after you have moved, but oftentimes you end up paying so much extra to move a ton of items you don’t really want. Take some time to go through all of your belongings before you move so they are not added to the weight of your shipment.
  6. Pack an essentials box – make sure you have a couple of boxes set aside and specifically labelled as essential items. Keep your prescriptions, extra clothing, kitchen utensils, and any other items you know you will need right away.
  7. Keep all your boxes labelled as best you can – especially if you are planning to pack the items yourself. This way you will have a better idea of which boxes needs to be prioritized over other items, like your Christmas decorations… which you may not need until later in the year!
  8. Keep your personal safety in mind – a lot of times people will ignore basic safety rules because they believe nothing will happen to them. Keep in mind your health and wellness is a number one priority, if you need help moving something heavy ask for help. Make sure you focus on proper lifting techniques or let the professionals come in and do the heavy lifting for you.
